news » Vox and the Cavern Club - 50 years on

2011 is an historic year for the Cavern Club.  On Thursday 9th February 1961 the Beatles made their first appearance at the club during a lunchtime session. Over the following two years they made a total of 292 appearances until their final performance on 3rd August 1963.  Vox was there then and is proud to be there now, as the club’s official amp sponsor.

Production manager Ray Johnson told us;

“The Cavern and Vox. It’s like Romeo and Juliet.  A classic love story. Not only is Vox part of the clubs amazing history, but it has been the preferred amplification on the ‘Famous Cavern Stage’ for nearly 10 years now. Most bands that play the venue either arrive with their own Vox, or request them. So it makes sense to give the bands what they want. The Famous Cavern stage has been renamed ‘The Vox Stage’. And why not.  Not only does it look the part, it sounds the part too.”

Over the past five decades the Cavern Club has become a place of pilgrimage with a regional, national and international identity. It’s a first class venue that has harnessed the evocative power of popular music both past and present.   The Cavern is probably the busiest promoter of original music from up and coming bands in the UK.  Proud of its heritage, but not afraid to move forward.
