VT15 volume jumps on amp change

i have seen this thread here but wanted to state that I have a VT15 model and am experiencing similar symptoms. in short, switching between amps causes the volume to jump quite high. in my limited experience with it (i purchased it yesterday), the volume returns to the correct normal only after adjusting the volume knob.

i am able to change the effects knob with no change volume whatsoever.

it appears the thread i mentioned above is frequently updated, so that's a good sign. i just wanted to let it be known that my new VT15 exhibits very similar symptoms.

I just purchased a VT15 xl and have the same issue (I am still searching for the similar threads). Love the sound but this may be a deal breaker.

Hi 4drslpr - there isn't a VT15XL - do you mean an AD15VT-XL or the new VT15?

Yes, it is an AD15VT-XL, sorry about that. OK, I've found the solution to 2/3's of my issues.
1. Cleaned the input terminals (thank you Voxman!). The amp was the last unit at GC (floor model), so I'm sure the inputs have seen some abuse.
2. The volume changes on each amp selected, because of the setting for that particular amp. I found this out by finding the exact settings for all the knobs per each amp.
3. The amp exceeds the WAF for the volume level, and she thought the valve junior was loud :)

Ok, the amp demons have arrived, and have won the battle! Now my ad15vt-xl cuts out all together. I checked out the tube while the amp was cut out and noticed it was completely out; after about 15 seconds of staring at the tube, it fired back up and the volume slowly came back. Looks like the combo is going back to GC, I will miss the ad15vt-xl's sound, but not the problems.
-Sorry if I jumped the tread, I just have a similar issue.

I wouldn't throw in the towel just yet! It sounds like the valve is probably just loose in its seating & just needs pushing back in!

It's also worth checking out the maintenance thread here as dirty jack sockets & software corruptions account for 95% of all Valvetronix problems!

I am having this problem on my new VT15 from December that I got a Silverstone cover and a footswitch for an am not happy at all. It was a Xmas gift from my wife and this bums me out. I am gonna make sure they replace mine heck or high water.

Gentlemen, what happens is that you have the amp remembering the last position you have. So if you are on one setting and then move to another, but then adjust the volume, it will jump to the first new pot position. Say you saved the volume on 3 the last time you were there, but the patch you are on now is set to 7 or 8, the you move to the patch that was on 3...so the second you move the pot, it's going to immediately jump to the 8 and then come back down only if you move to the 3 again. It does this intentionally, you just have to understand that you want this in order to perform live with the amp.

Chris has done more homework on this than me; I found the same issue using the 4 preset footswitch using the 1st two for clean, the next for an OD and the last for a gain/volume lead boost. The clean presets aren't programmed to be as loud/balanced as the higher gain ones. I had the same problem with my old GT-8 pedalboard. It was a lot of work balancing all the levels on that beast. Somehow my initial problem has gone away because I spent a lot of time in the instructions and playing with the amp types and sounds to get some good crunches out of the higher gain models and reducing the difference between the gain/volume on clean and gain models. Some of the cleans you have to max out the volume and add gain to bring it up to unity with a gain patch and I believe the gain and/or volume matching process helps the issue. I also have a habit of muting the strings briefly after a patch change which helps. I have never had this issue turning the preset knob on the top of the amp (VT-30).
