Hey everybody!
My first post here.

I'm about to getting the full package... the AC30HWH with the 2x12 blues.
First of all, this forum here helped me a lot thru my choice, and now I decided to participate here, asking you a few questions. Kinda lame, but I hope you guys could help me:

1 - I've read a lot about that issues with the HW series (on valve replacing or tone getting kinda fizzy passing the time), but on all of the posts, even with the issues, the owner deffends the amp, saying that's still awesome and the repair really worth it. The head I'm about to get have SN #000573. Is those problems solved on this range of SN already?

2 - My band plays classic rock stuff (from Led, Humble Pie, The Band, Floyd, GFR... passing through Whitesnake... to Black Crowes, Gov't Mule, etc). The Black Crowes is really my reference about good tone! Do you think I could cover all this areas with the amp? I got some pedals (overdrives, fuzzes) and the amp accept them nicely?

3 - Which pair of speakers are better... the blues or the greens for my case?

BTW, I got an SG.

Thanks, guys.

I have an SG and an AC30c2. For the variety of music you're intending to cover, I'd suggest greenback speakers. That's obviously a big debate, but I feel the greenbacks give a wider palate of sound.

Welcome! Now on your questions:
1. I don't know, but you can tell by taking a look inside. The grid resistors are not placed on the turret, but on the tube socket. It's easy to do. i have pictures if you like. The problems described, with the exeption of the resistors, were almost exclusively tube related.
2. It handles OD's well, it is a bit picky with fuzzes IMO. It depends on how much the pre-amp is breaking up.
3. I'd suggest a combination of a blue and a greenback (watch the dB specs, they must match) or 2 greenbacks for your style.

Good luck

The greenbacks have more attack, mids and aggression. The blues are a bit brighter and softer and feel sort of lazy like they are trying catching up with your picking, they sound looser and less under control. Thats about the best way I can describe them ;-)

For a more modern rockier sound go for the greens. For a more vintage bluesier compressed sound go for the blues. Some people like one of each and despite the efficiency of both speakers being unbalanced it seems to work well.
