I am now an owner of the Vox Valvetronix 120VTX the blue series 2nd run with the closed back and Neodogs. I want to get the VC12SV footcontroller it's the silver one as the original blue one is no longer available. Does the VC12SV come with a cable and carrying bag like the original one did? Also what were the improvements made on the VC12SV?
Congrats on the AD120VTX - IMHO arguably the best Valetronix made - my own rig is a Korean AD120VTX plus AD212 extn cab plus VC12 (I use a 7-band EQ, BBE Boosta Grand and BBE Sonic stomp maximiser in the FX loop). if you haven't already done so, check out the FAQ section at Valvetronix.net to find a host of info on these amps, plus how to connect a mono stomp EQ in the FX loop to turn these into even more of a tone monster.
Re the VC12SV, it should come with gig bag & ethernet cable. There are no improvements to the VC12 - the units are identical aside from colour & shape of volume/expression pedals. Judging by 'notices' on some dealers websites, it looks as if these may be discontinued now so you probably need to be quick to find a store that still has these in stock.
I'm totally loving this amp so far! Love the breakup on the AC30 and AC15 models and I haven't had the voltage beyond 1W. Mine is a Vietnamese made( I didn't know they were made in different countries what is with that?!) I got a lead on a VC12SV.
The attenuator ('power-selector') is very useful for home use but to get the best from the amp this needs to be opened up. Use the 2x1w setting for late night practice only. This does sap the tone, so I recommend you switch to 2x15w as a minimum for normal home playing & for gigging, use 2x30w or 2x60w. More than just controlling total output, it's about letting the amp 'breathe' and 'vibrancy' & 'response'. 2x15w will sound better than 2x1w at the same volume.
Got VC12SV foot controller(with Bag and cable) the thing is huge but so well made it's a tank I really didn't expect it to be this big! I read the whole amp manual and the one for the VC12SV.
So first question: I actually have 2 manuals: One VC12 manual that I downloaded from the Vox site and the VC12SV manual that came in the box. On page 9 of the VC12 manual there is a section called "Storing amp data in the VC-12" where you can store tha amps' programs in the foot controllers' 4 memories....however this has been omitted in the VC-12SV version so I'm assuming this isn't possible with the new version of the controller. I was a bit puzzled when I read about it. Is this program storage procedure nessesary?
Check out this explanation from Rich , far clearer than the manuals. Well worth reading the whole section while your there.

Well right now I can't get the thing to work!? It lights up and sound comes out of the amp when it's turned on but when I switch to another patch there's no sound at all?
First thing to do is disconnect the the VC12SV and reset the amp back to factory settings in case there's a software filepath corruption.
If that doesn't solve the problem, then the challenge is to identify whether there's a problem with your amp, the VC12SV or the ethernet cable, via process of ellimination.
The most likely culprit is the ethernet lead. You don't say where you bought the VC12SV buit if it was a store, check if they have another unit & then take your amp in with you. If it still doesn't work with another VC12CV and/or other cable, then the problem is your amp.
BTW, re manufacture the last batch of the Blue VTX were made in Vietnam, the earlier blue VTX were Korean. However, & although records appear to be somewhat vague here, I'm led to believe by Vox that all the blues were made by a Korean company that had factories in Korea & Vietnam, which is why some early AD120VT/AD60VT's might have a 'made in Vietnam' plate.
It's all a bit confusing & I'm trying to get some further clarification here.
Got it working fine now...it was the volume pedal! Has been awhile since I've used one. LOL.
