Relocating patches on TLEX

Thanks in advance. New EX owner here, pls forgive my noob-ness. I can't ever see myself using any more than 12 patches playing live. I'm wondering if I can arrange the editable patches I use in an easy-to-access manner, i.e., use Bank 2 as sort of a "center" bank, and then put 4 other patches each on Bank 1 and Bank 3. That way, I only have to go up and down one or two banks, then select the desired patch. Is this possible/logical?

As a follow-on ?, are the individual settings for each factory-programmed patch (amp, cabinet, effects, etc.) available somewhere? I need this info to replicate the patches and relocate them into their new locations. Hope this makes sense. Thanks in advance

It's very easy to to save patches in different locations. I haven't got the TLEX, but from memory (& this should all be in the manual) it should work like this:
1. Choose a user position you want to save a patch too eg 150
2. Select the factory pre-set you want to move eg 2. Press write the led should flash
3. Scroll through the patches and select 150
4. Press 'write' again

Patch 150 should now contain a copy of patch 2, but because its in a user preset now, you can tweak it & save it

So, you don't need to worry about patch settings.

You can position any patch in any of the user preset locations, so you can organise your 12 patches in 3 groups of patches anyway you want. Don't forget, you can go into stomp mode on every patch too!

So, if you have a nice clean and want the same but with chorus, you don't need to create another patch. Set the chorus you like then go into stomp mode - turn the chorus off, & save the patch. When you select the patch again, it will be clean still - but go into stomp mode, press the chorus button, & you're saved chorus will be there.

You can do the same with modulation, delay, reverb, pedal effect in every user patch! And if you go into stomp mode on factory presets, you can switch on/off FX that will give you a new tone to try. What may sound awful with a weird effect eg filtron, on could sound brilliant with that pedal off.

Thanks for that writeup. I'm understanding my EX a little more each day. "grateful" the closest you'll get to a list of the factory preset patches is to download Librarian and it will show you all of the presets at 100 - 199 and what amp, cabinet, effects are being used.

Man, you guys are great! Thanks again for the responses! That clears up alot of things. Voxman - i've read all your posts on the EX (I think) and gained a lot of understanding; on behalf of all of us - thank you for taking the time. I think most of us really want to like VOX (despite some quirkiness), your explanations help greatly!

I did have one more librarian-related question: DId I read that correctly that I can't download and save single patches created by other users? Not quite sure I followed that, something about "all or none"

The EX reminds me of my '06 GTO: There are several known mechanical issues to work through that cause frustration, but man, when you put the hammer down on that 400hp LS2 Corvette motor... heaven!!!!

And am wondering why there are dozens of patches for other Tonelab pedals, but seemingly none for the EX?

+1 The EX doesn't seem to have a big user base. Too bad there's no one at Vox that could stoke the embers a little and post some song patches once and a while. I'll give it a go when I get better acquainted with it. I'm still using an old pedal while I figure out the EX.

I believe that the TLSE and TLLE software is more sophisticated, allowing you to edit in real time, and save individual patches that can be posted. I don't have a TLEX but if the TLEX Librarian software is similar to the TLST Librarian software, then you can't post individual patches - the software is much more restrictive and only allows a total 'dump' of all patches.

I haven't yet tried to load the TLLE software on my computer yet, to see if it might work with Windows 7 64-bit via the 'backwards compatibility' function. I'm just awaiting delivery of a new 1.5TB portable hard-drive to back up a full image of my PC first, and then I'll try putting it on.
