JamVox - I feel ripped off

The noise issues are too big to just be brushed off as a small problem: the whole f-ing point of the thing is to create noise! If this doesn't work, then frankly we've all been sold a faulty product. You wouldn't buy a TV if the picture dissapeared every few seconds would you? Sort it out Vox, this is the first Vox product I havn't been 100% happy with, and the potential for it is great, but at the moment I feel like my wallet has been violated.

Josh, I understand you're frustrated but I'm unclear as to what you mean by 'noise issues'?

Could you elaborate and explain the difficulties you've come up against & have you been on to Vox support for assistance?

Also, what is your computer spec re make, processor, RAM, soundcard, and operating system?

The reason I ask is that I'm aware some problems can be due to corrupted software, registry issues etc. I'm not suggesting the difficulties you're hearing are your computer, rather than the JamVox, but I just wanted to try & check that your computer is in perfect health via software such as a good file cleaner, a registry cleaner, regularly defragmented (inc registry defrag), spyware/antivirus (naturally), and a utility repair tool (eg Norton SystemWorks to repair any corrupted Windows, program code etc).

I do appreciate that one of Vox' big problems in trying to help users is trying to differentiate issues genuinely emanating solely from the JamVox, and those where the computer is (somehow) causing some strange behaviour. In this regard, the JamVox is unique in that it's totally dependent on an external computer over which Vox has no control.

If you could clarify the above, and explain your problem as clearly as possible I'm sure one of the Vox JamVox experts will try & help here.

tmoo11 - I appreciate your frustration, but: -

1. There is no FAQ section on this forum that I'm aware of
2. I don't work for Vox - I'm an ordinary user and customer just like you - so I can't fix it I'm afraid
3. I don't have a JamVox, so I'm unfamiliar with the problem
4. I hadn't seen the earlier thread, and so believed this to be a new issue. The original post would probably have been best placed within the other thread, for continuity.

Please therefore treat other forum contributors fairly and with courtesy, especially where genuine efforts are being made to try and help. Cheers.

jettjack - Voxman, if you're unfamiliar with the product (VOX Jam VOX), then you need to get your hands on one and try it out. All of the problems listed in this forum I too have observed whilst working with my JamVOX.

Jettjack - I appreciate you may be frustrated by your experiences with this product, and I don't doubt the difficulties you've experienced, but please keep your posts friendly. I have left the main content of your last post but edited that part which was 'inappropriate'.

if you are having difficulties with JamVox and cannot gain resolution via the forum, I can only urge you to raise your problems directly with Vox either in writing or by calling the Vox technical/service manager nearest to your locale.

jettjack- I may have somthing that will help with the crackle & pop. today, I tried using different guitar cables with my JamVOX and with the higher quality cables there was a huge improvement. So,I went out and purchased a Mogami analog reference guitar & instrument cable(GOLD). The crackel is completely gone. There's still a small pop from time to time but nothing like before. It seems to be more of a static electricity problem. I hope this helps you guys out. If it does let me know.

I'm also having the same problems with crackle & pop. I'm using the 1.10 software with my Vista SP1 HP Pavilllion DV5 1090es laptop (almost new, no "odd" software installed on it), and it got better since moving the Hardware slider to the right, but there are still crackle & pop sounds.

What's worse is that I cannot get a clean, undistorted tone from it. If I set the program to "clean", there is still a "gurgling" vibrato in the sound. I thought I did something wrong, sp I brought my laptop down to the dealer. We together have verified that it has to do with my HP laptop. The same hardware box worked fine with an Apple computer, but the "gurgling" vibrato and the "crackle & pop" is impossible to get rid of on the Pavillion laptop. We tried everything in the FAQ, disabling everything else (network, sound card etc), but it didn't make a difference.

As the guy at the music store said: "this is unacceptable" - nobody would pay money for a music device that sounds this bad...

I would urge VOX to get out and buy a HP Pavillion DV5 laptop, it's one of the most popular models, and FIX the JamVOX software to work with it.

The JamVOX is such a fun and innovative thing that it's really a shame that it doesn't work with a standard, new off-the-shelves HP laptop.

I currently have it installed on my desktop and a laptop, both with good to excellent specs. I only experience the hiss and crackle on my laptop. I have a theory that it may have something to do with the wifi signal, because mine improved slightly after disabling my wifi NIC. YMMV though.

I've recently been trying out some of line 6's toneport hardware. Yeah, the jamvox has the major advantage of having the built in amplifier so you get a great guitar sound (if you can ignore the snap, crackle and pop) and the software itself is great, but I had NO issues with noise whilst using the toneport. I'm seriously considering a trade. A real shame, because Vox have always provided brilliant hardware in the past, but my experience with the jamvox has been a huge let down. When it comes to upgrading my amp, I'm already venturing afield from Vox, if they can rip their customers off like this I don't want to give them a penny more of my money.

Well, I found out that the crackle problems are mainly coming from having WIFI installed.
When I am alone at home, there are no problems. But when several users are getting connected, there may be some instability of the signal, depending on the other users applications. The best is to disconnect the WIFI temporarily and try over again. You will not have the online help function, but what if? Use a good guitar cable, make sure that you don't put any stomp boxes in the signal pad, there are plenty in the program.

Long story short: have had jamvox for a week. monitor wouldn't power up--was a bad usb cable--got a new one. Set it up, had crackle and pop--update download--got better--THEN---a second download---got even better--1.10.1 and a 1.10.2. the computer is old, cpu is too slow and not enough ram. it sounded fine just pegged my cpu and ate up my memory when trying to play any music files--so music and controls would freeze up--but the crackle and pop was almost all gone--moved it to a 2nd computer 4gb ram and a quad core--only got one update on that computer. It works and sounds great on that one. no cracking, no hassitation on the music or controls anymore--Love the thing now--best money I've spent. I'm posting this in hopes maybe it will help someone else. Morphball and mvca maybe on to something, cause I moved it to a better computer yes,but it is also on ethernet connection where the old one is wireless, and unintionally switched my guitar cable when I moved it, to a better and shorter one. hope this helps somebody

Dear JamVOX users,

We thank you for purchasing JamVOX.
We are continuing to develop JamVOX updates day by day in order to make JamVOX even better for all users. Since JamVOX was launched we have investigated any issue reported to us involving noise problems, possible "blue screen" errors etc as part of the development process and in order to help customers who had PC issues that needed resolving.

With version 1.11 for Windows, we can find no problem with all the PCs we use for testing, both here in Japan and in our office in the USA and Europe.

If you still have any problem with the v1.11, please let us know your PC environments with your "JamVOX" folder* using the form at http://www.jamvox-online.com/support/form

*...Your "JamVOX" folder is located at:
[Windows XP]
(Drive Name) > Documents and Settings > (User Name) > Application Data VOX > JamVOX [Windows Vista] (Drive Name) > Users > (User Name) > AppData > Roaming > VOX > JamVOX

Please attach this folder as a zip-compressed file.

Thank you for your cooperation and support!

I was having the noise issue using it on my macbook pro, and was very frustrated, but discovered that if I removed it from my USB hub (it is a powered hub!) and pluged it directly into the laptop port, the problem went away. by the way I first tried removing all other devices from the machine and port (and rebooting), with no joy, so I would say that it has to do with some USB ports.

There's always multiple variables. Guitar, cable, computer, software etc. I've often found that... all of these things can be great items but sometimes they just don't jive with each other for whatever reason... and it's natural to get pissed off and blame the thing you just bought. That's your hard earned money.

Just always take into consideration the possibility that it could be any one of those other variables just not grooving with the latest addition to your lineup.

I remember getting all pissed off at the TLST Librarian Software until I realized my computer was just retarded and had all the ports assigned to other crap. Then once it was fixed and the software worked awesomely... I forgot ever being mad. I know this sounds like some gradeschool bullshit but sometimes being positive helps! Venting is good too though! :-P

I just spent 6 hours frigging with the pickups on my guitar and finally figured out how to make my dual P90's act like a humbucker! My roommates can attest to my frustration... but I remained positive and kept at it... and there ya go... The results were most satisfying! :-)

I've been thinking about getting a JamVox, but the problems reported seemed to be a bit much...

Have any of you with problems tried the latest software upgrade, 1.11, that Vox' PaulB mentioned above???
