AD50VT volume and effect problems

Hey guys,

1: I have a Vox Valvetronix AD50VT. When I first got it it worked great.... I remember I never even turned the master volume all the way up because it would just get way too loud.

So, last night I was practicing and I was trying out my new guitar and effect pedal, and all of the sudden a really high pitched screeching sound came out of the amp. I shut it down.

Today, I wrote to the two programs; I wanted CH 1 to be clean and CH 2 to be dirty and distorted so thats what I did. However, it was really quiet for some reason. Like I turned up the master volume all the way and it was relatively quiet. So, at first I thought maybe I set the volume wrong in the program so I re-wrote it with the volume turned all the way up. Still quiet. So I turned it onto manual and put the same exact setting that I had in the program except just on manaul mode and it was much much louder.

Why? At first I thought maybe the tubes were just bad.... but the fact that now I know it can go that loud tells me its not that tubes.

2: The effects settings on it..... it likes to give me trouble. I notice when I swtich to delay it will give actually give me reverb. Or like today I switched on tremolo and played with tremolo a little bit. Then I switched the bypass, maybe swtiched around the channels, then swtiched the bypass back on (I hadnt moved the effect selector switch at all) and it was in delay.

Whats going on guys? So far I have two major problems....

Read the mainteanance thread here: -

Sounds like you might have a software file-path corruption. Try resetting the amp back to factory settings (sometimes, may need a repeat).

If that doesn't work, the tube may have gone microphonic and need replacing (unusual, but possible).

I have the Vox AD50VT XL and I love it! It is a great amp and it get so loud! Its perfect! the cleans sound great as well!

A problem I wanted to ask was that when I got my amp off of an online garage sale site (craigs list) I was playing my amp and I loved it and I went to check out the tube and to my surprise... NO TUBE!

I have no idea how its still working? Voxman can you tell me how this amp is still working?

I will get a tube soon but how is it still working? and do i even need the tube?

I didn't think it could work without the tube! - When you say you 'went to check out the tube' did you open up the amp? Or did you just look through the grill? - because you can't see the tube through the grill of an AD50VT XL - it's in a different position to the smaller versions.

I looked in the back of the amp in the grill, Dont all the Valvetronix amps have the tube behind that one grill?
