Before getting my ac30, I wasn't terribly concerned about what mic I used to mic my amp. Now that I have the ac30, I really want something that is going to preserve the unique tone. Any suggestions?

Some guys use a Shure SM 57 or SM 58..... I've been using a Sennheiser E609 for about 3 years now, It's the flat mic. It's worked great for me and since its flat, I can just hang it in front of the amp, a few minor adjustments on you sound board and your good to go.

Shure SM57 is basically the industry standard live mic for guitar amps. But I second Dennis Mac the Sennheiser E609 sounds quite good and you can just hang it down from your amp so no need for a stand. My only complaint with micing amps is that you have to make sure that you have a competent sound engineer running the board. A lot of times they hire schmucks who don't know a knob from their ass. Just my two cents.

Sm57 is the best. but remember to experiment with placement. A little time taken to find the sweatspot pays off in the end. I like to place the mic a couple of inches off center and about 1 to2 inches away from the grill. But for a less dominant sound I will move the mic more towards the edge of the speaker. Also try putting your amp and mic in different rooms, like a closet or bathroom. You will be surprised at what you will find.
