Hello Guys,
I'm owning an AC15C1 since few months and despite the fact that I used it a bit (didn't found enough time 'til now), the Master Vol. pot becomes very noisy. It sounds like an "old" pot used for some thousand of hours :-(
Did you experienced that with your AC15C1 ?
I know, it is China made and the parts seems cheaper compared to the "classic" Vox but I'm a bit disappointed with a so low quality.
Have a nice day
Maybe is it just due to some dust, and cleaning it with an electric contact spray will solve the problem?
You're right, an electric contact spray may fix that issue but this is not serious.
I built some amplifiers with tubes and even after years of use, I never got any pot scratching.
Anyway, If I find time I'll replace the pots by serious models.
Maybe do you use some "oil bath" pots when you build amps?
I've got a Mesa/Boogie amp, and this dust problem did appear on it too ...
No, no, I just used good quality pot. After it depends if you build a High-End stereo amplifier or a guitar amplifier.
For HE I use ALPS pot and for guitar I use Japanese Alpha pot. Of course after some years you can ear some scratchy noises but not after few hours of use as on my AC15C1.
He Vox guys, why to use that cheap pots rather than a few better model ? Ok, I know the answer : price. But I'm not sure that justify the choice. Honestly I prefer to pay couple of € more, having something ready to use for long time rather than to be, first of all disappointed and then to have to modify my guy to meet my expectations.
I guess it is not only a marketing choice but a choice coming from the product manager (nothing personal guy). This is the new law : cost reduction, better margin... Finally, all of that is normal else year after year the brands disappear and I'll always be happy to buy Vox.
As my grandma said : If you buy Chinese, you got Chinese ;-)
That said, have a nice day and enjoy the guitar.
Mine has noisy pots, i've tried cleaning them but it didnt help that much. They dont look like great quality though. Shame realy, I would have paid a bit more for better pots... As far as chinese construction goes it seems pretty good to me. Even if it was made in England it would still have cheapo chinese components. The board construction is great though, not messy like my 80's made in England Marshall ^^
I bought mine this last Saturday. Mine had a noisy volume pot in the store. I still wanted it but they sprayed some stuff in there to make it better. It fixed it for a couple days. I was concerned it had gotten some road use before being put back on the floor but I feel better now knowing it happened to others. The noise doesn't bother me all that much. I feel happy I got an all tube amp W/reverb and tremolo for the price.
