AD 100 VT COMBO High Gain Extreme Metal Power Amp Settings

I have had this amp for a year now, and have used it to record heavy rock succesfully. But now Im using it for myself to get an extreme metal tone for my band (think Lamb of God, Messuggah..). I have tried pushing the power amp like you would naturally do on a tube amp, but I would get a harsh tone, with muddy bass, which made fast, low passages a total mess, not a tight sound at all. I tried this both at room practice levels at 15 watts, and at band practice at around 50 watts, with my master at 12 o clock.

But then I would get a better tone at room levels with higher wattage, around 3 o clock on the power lvl, and a lower master lvl, around 3 o clock. I tried higher wattage at home, as high as I could, and the tone seemed tighter. Next rehearsal I will try this settings and bringinig my power lvl up for more overall volume, insted of the master. Hence treating the power section more like a solid state than a tube amp.

Have any of you guys trying to get tones like this found this to be the way for it????

Any useful feedback???

Thanks

Raising the power-selector allows the amp to 'breathe'.

But if you want to turn your AD100VT into even more of a tone monster with tight bottom end whilst having control of mids & highs, then add an EQ in the FX loop. It will transform your amp and take off a blanket that you didn't know was there.

Read here:

And check out my youtube demo clips in the links of my AD120VTX with/without an EQ.

I get the same problem with my ad30vt.

High Master + low wattage and i get nice tube tone, but distorted rhythm passages/chords become total muck.
Low Master + High wattage it tightens up but has no tone at all + noise.
Have both up and the speaker sounds terrible.

Im starting to wonder what this amp is actually any good for.

Im looking at doing and EQ mod and building a 12" cab with a celestion G12. Only if i can get the parts cheap though, dont wanna spend more than the amp warrants.

Yup, I fell you. If Im going to go ahead and get an EQ, I think I might change amp instead. I got this amp as a trade from a friend, and It did work well for recording, but I think now that Im giging with a metal act, Im going to have to switch. Im thinking if a Rabdall RG75 combo for that Dimebag, razor tone

Well, i dont play much metal (i like a bit of soad+rammstein) but even clean tones, its just starting to loose its novelty.

I guess your worried about doing a loop mod and buying a eq pedal, and end up still unhappy?
That would suck , i reckon i could get the parts for a loop mod, a G12, an EQ and some wood for about £50 if i bide my time.
Better than £300 on a 'decent' amp.

I'll keep posted.

i have an ad30vt and had the same type of problem trying to get trivium, parkway drive, as i lay dying type tones and keep it clean so i built a 2x12 diagonal cab with a pair of celestion g12t-75 12" speakers and it solved the problem and made it loud as hell when you turn it up its a beast and plays everything i want it to :P hope tht helped and it only cost me around £80 to make the cab got the speakers of ebay.

oh almost forgot i have replaced the vox 12ax7 valve with an electro harmonix high gain 12ax7 n its the bollox lol also i play a fender mexican stratt hss but replaced the standard fender humbucker with a seymore duncan sh-13 which really helps cut through the bass n make fast picked and hammer ons/ pull offs not just meld together n sound like crap lol hope that helps any1 looking to play heavy metal on a vox it aint just the amp that makes the sound.

I found an original Peavey 5150 at a pawn shop for 250 bucks, sounds JUST like I want... But I use the AD50VT in small rooms, used it for recording yesterday, sounds great but not loud enough, I *wish* I had an AD100VT!
