I bought the AC4TV 8 this past weekend after the wonderful video clips online. Didn't play it much in Guitar Center because of the huge volume coming from the teen metal kids playing. Took it home and didn't like it, so I took it back. Too fizzy.
Is the AC4TV 10 less noisy? I really loved what I heard online, and having a small amp that can play that wonderful sound at low volume would be really great. If the AC4TV 10 isn't any better, I will probably get a Super Champ XD. . .sorry, but I really need a small tube amp for recording. .
I say go with the head version and get a 1 x 12 cab. Totally different sounding amp. Of course you can go out to speaker with the 10 or 8 as well.
No matter how good an amp is inside, what you hear comes from the speaker and a small 8" speaker is going to have severe limitations compared to larger speakers. A 10" will sound a little 'toppier' and more 'vintage' sounding, whereas a 12" will give you a bigger tone with more bottom end. Each will have its own characteristics, so it's a case of choosing the version that's right for you.
If you need maximum light portability & like the 10" version you have a light portable amp but can still always add a 12" cab (which cuts out the internal speaker I believe) for a bigger tone if you want to. Alternatively, if you prefer the 12" straight off then go head & cab.
Voxman, was your excellent demo done with the 8" version or the 10" version?
I have the 10" combo and the 112TV (12") cabinet. I love the flexibility. And yes, the amp speaker is disabled when you plug a speaker cable into it. The difference I get between the 10" combo and cabinet is something like this:
The 10" combo has a nice warm mid-range and when cranked gives you a beautiful solo overdrive tone without the added low end that can make nuances like pick sounds and lower strings prominent.
The 12" cabinet gives a powerful difference for rhythm. You get a more boom response from the lower strings.
I love the combo for jamming with friends with no drums. I get a lot of compliments on the tone. But, when it's time to jam with a drum set, I have to use the cabinet to allow the rhythm parts to keep up. I've done louder jams with the combo only (10") but found that the low-end is not visible enough compliment the bass guitar. But, for solos, the 10" still screams. I love this amp. LOVE IT.

Umm - appreciate the kind words lusthaben but neither - just as per the vid text, (& title in the first one) and as I announced at the start of each vid, it was the AC4TVH plus matching 1x12" cab!

Thanks, it was your demo that sold me on the unit, but I think the 8 inch speaker was just not the right one for me.
I liked the 1x12 very much - hugely different to the 8"!!
I'm confused are you saying a vox ac4tv fed through a 12 inch cab can keep up with drums?

I have used my ac4tv 10 inch combo hooked up to a behringer 4x12" cabinet (at 16 ohms). and it was definitely loud enough to be heard well even with my heavy hitting drummer. This was in a rehearsal situation of course. For a live gig, I would probably just mike up the combo and run it through the PA system. I have tried out the 8" version, but was not super impressed. I'm sure it would be suitable in some situations. But for my needs, I felt that the 10" combo produced the sound I wanted to hear.
