Okay, checked one here. White goes to positive, black to negative. Hope this helps!

I don't have an AC4 but I would say that one of the wires is red and in my experience that is always the positive, the speaker terminals should also be marked with either - or +, hook up the red to the + and you should be good to go.

I don't think you can damage anything except the speaker could be out of phase if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty certain that red will be positive.

cheers

Glad to hear you're enjoying your amp! The tone will definitely get more responsive as you kick up the volume a bit. Not abnormal.

As far as changing out the tubes, you'll get less gain (and in that regard, less perceived volume) as you move away from the 12AX7. Here's a good on-line store that gives a quick rundown of 12AX7 substitutions and their gain factor: http://thetubestore.com/gainfactor.html.

As far as the wiring, I'll have to check in the office tomorrow and get back to you. I've only got an AC4TVH here at home.

Hope this helps!

Hi, I'm really enjoying my AC4TV with the 10" speaker. I play a MIM strat with lace sensors, mostly blues/rock. I play at low volume only, which is part of the reason I bought this amp. Grateful for advice on 3 issues.

First, the tome control isn't very responsive at low volume. Is it because I play quietly, or should I change the valves? I bought the amp S/H and don't know how much use it's had.

Second, what differences would I find if i used 12au7 or 12 ax7 valves? Any impact on volume, tone or gain?

Third,(and this is embarrasing), when I took the back off for a peek inside the speaker wires came off the terminals. Which colour should go to which terminal??

Thanks for your help.
