Hi Flavio,
for me the Vox output is the best. Its a little bit muddier, i call it warmer, than the LINE output. Thanks to let me check it again ;-)
I will now begin to build a sound library. Each amp (exept the metal amps) gets its own bank. The first 2 slots are for a clean and a dirty channel, the last for playing around with effects or song presets.
Its really great fun to play with the tonelab and explore sound possibilities.
Regards
Tobias

Hey tobbster,

It´s funny because I started trying the LINE output, you left me thinking! haha. But all the way the F output is much better for me...

Regards and good luck!

Hi Flavio and voxman,
thanks for tips.
Flavio you are right, i meant the total eq while in LINE mode. I also found the LINE mode more natural and clear with the Cub, but i will now try the Fender mode again more thorough.

Hi Rich,

That´s right, "total EQ" is an additional layer of EQ. You access to it only in LINE mode pressing the Cabinet/Options button for a second; this enables the Bass knob as EQ HIGH and the Reverb knob as EQ LOW.

I´m surprised you found the LINE output better for you. When you compare all the output modes, actually the "amps" modes sound bassy/muddy in comparisson with Line mode, but this one also sounds trebly and metallic. I always found the right sound managing the normal EQ with F output when I had the Fender Blues Junior amp... It also depends on your position respect to the amp, I mean, if you point the amp directly to you when you are playing or not.

Sorry if my sentences sound weird, english is not my native language!

Cheers!

Flavio

Thanks for clarifying fechart - I'm not sure if you mean that in 'Total EQ mode' you can adjust an additional layer of EQ globally (if so, I wasn't aware of that).

However, whilst your observation is correct in theory, in practice it isn't. I actually found the best tone from the TLEX with my Cub WAS to set the global EQ switch to 'Line' - I found the other settings too bassy/muddy.

Hi tobbster and voxman,
I think there´s a big confusion here. Tobbster is switching the output of the TLEX to LINE, and this enables the TOTAL EQ, which is another stage of EQ apart from the normal Hi-Mid-Low EQ. This TOTAL EQ works only with the LINE output on the TLEX, and you CAN´T save its settings in a preset.

I think you´re doing wrong there Tobbster, LINE Output is supposed to be used to record, for example when you connect your TLEX to a PC. You have three other outputs specially made to conect the TLEX to an amp, that's "VOX" position to connect to a VOX amp, "F" position to connect to a typical clean-sounding US-made open-backed combo amp, and "M" position to connect to a high gain stack-type amp with a 4x12 closed-back cabinet.

You should use the "F" output with your amp, and manage the EQ (NOT the total EQ) and Presence to fit the sound to your taste.

Hope this advice helps! Cheers!

Don't forget that my Cub is modified - the stock low-budget Celestion Rocket 50 has been upgraded to a Celestion Vintage 30 - big difference in tone & volume.

When you say 'total EQ' settings, if you mean treble, mids, bass in the TLEX, you can save all settings to each patch individually as a 'user setting' within the user section - but you can't save changes to patches whilst in the factory preset locations. If you mean global EQ, AFAIK only the 4-position switch at the rear of the unit gives a 'global' change to all patches and I don't think there's any other way you can globally change EQ to all patches in one go in the TLST or TLEX.

I certainly didn't find the AC30TB or AC15 models muddy. One of the things to try is using different guitar leads - the difference in tone that a different guitar lead can make, can be HUGE....& it's not necessarily to do with yours not being 'good quality'.

Also, make sure you;re using the 15w input - the 1w setting doesn't sound as vibrant.

Thanks for your quick answer.

Yes I tried the Energizer (read your earlier posts) and found it great with higher volumes, a little bit too bassy with low volume (as the Cub too in my ears).

Did you use any total-eq settings and do you know how to save them (they won't be saved with the presets)?

I find the Vox 15 and 30 models sounds rather muffled, how do they sound at the TLST?

Afraid I had to return my loan TLEX, so I only have my TLST currently.

Here's a BIG tip, to get a bigger tone from your cub, select & max out the energizer effect in your TLEX...makes it sound like a big 2x12"!! I don't have this in the TLST & I miss it!

I set the Cub fairly clean - 15w input, gain at 2-3, olume wherever you need. Output on TLEX at 12 neutral (higher, if more volume & clean headroom needed - ie if you raise the Cub gain it will start to 'crunch', whereas using the TLEX global volume control gives more headroom). Tonelab volume - just set wherever you want to get a balanced volume level from your patches. It's not a perfect science, so just set to taste.

Hi voxman and lucky cub12(great blues rock bedroom amp) owners.
Yersterday I got the tonelab and its sound pretty good in front of the amp with tonelab out as Line.
Its my first multi and i wonder how to control the volume and how to adjust the total-eq.
For the volume there are 3 parameter to consider: amp volume, output level at the tonelab back and the tonelab volume.
Have you tips for level/volume/eq settings which work well with the cub12?
Have you amp/effect settings for blues rock which you prefer?
