I’m John Scofield, jazz guitarist, and I love the VOX AC30 Heritage amp. My sound differs from ‘orthodox’ jazz guitar sound in that I like to be able to jack it up and get some natural distortion sometimes. You can do that with a VOX AC30 without using a distortion pedal. But if I roll back the volume, I can still get a good clean sound.
The VOX AC30 has a unique design and sound that sets it apart from other amps. There’s something about this amp that’s really special. You get a big, fat sound and it looks great too.”
“I think the VOX Heritage amp is a fantastic reissue. It’s hand-wired and they’ve added new design features using different circuitry and sound combinations…but it’s basically a straight-ahead hand-wired AC30 that sounds cool when you first plug in.
“It’s really hard to play if the amp’s not right. I have to fly to a lot of gigs where I don’t bring my own amp and I ask that a VOX AC30 be provided. Then I have a shot at getting my sound…your amplifier is as much of your sound as your guitar is and it’s really important to be comfortable with your whole setup- guitar and amp.”
